E2 Advanced Exemplary Work - Eugene Lin - The Ice Realm

Another fantastic story by one of the Advanced English Lessons students. Eugene took the writing guide he was given and went above and beyond the expected criteria giving us a wonderfully creative story. Eugene often comes up with great ideas and stories during class discussions. This time however, he took those ideas, and planned his thoughts out carefully. He spent time selecting some great vocabulary words to make for an exciting, colorful read. Well done Eugene, we look forward to the next one.

The Ice Realm

It all began with the dimensional breach that happened at the end of the Earth’s ice age, which teleported the ice age to a new-born, blank realm. There were two main tribes—the Frost Walkers and the Gumanns, evolved from ice golems and monk-ices. They have been fighting for centuries. Another small group of people named the Blizzards had been stealing food and materials from both tribes when they were busy solving many bug and predator problems. The two tribes knew that they had to stop letting problems happen, but didn’t know how.

After the 159th bug attack, one of the Blizzard’s members showed up in one of the Gumanns’ big tents, throwing slimeball-bombs everywhere. That was the fifth time. Harold, the tribal leader, decided to send a team of skilled fighters  to capture the Blizzards including Sill. The only teenager in the team. Sill had a bad day, which started by eating raw tuna for breakfast in the morning, being chosen for the Blizzard capturing team, walking a long distance, and ending with having cabbage soup for dinner. An ice-gem sword was given to Sill the next morning before an arrow hit Sill’s leather breastplate, followed by more arrows, knocking one-third of the team to the ground.

It was a total riot. Arrows were flying, white-suited men were attacking, and lots of animals were running everywhere. But the team remained calm, they had no choice but to fight. Now, there were arrows shooting, swords dinging, animals running, men roaring or shouting, and wild snow leopards being attracted…wait ... .what? The Blizzards men noticed them and Poof! They disappeared, leaving the injured and tired team chased by the whole bunch of snow leopards.

After struggling in the wild for exactly 49 days, the team finally found a few tents of the Blizzards. The Blizzard-capturing team broke into the tents led by Sill, fighting until there was no one left. They were surprised to see the Frost Walkers when they returned to the tribe. Harold explained how the Frost Walkers experienced similar things, and how the two tribes decided to cooperate to totally obliterate the Blizzards. A party was held at the team’s recovering house by Sill and other teammates after two peaceful weeks.

The team finally defeated some trouble-causing Blizzard members, but there were still others out there. A legend said that there was a god with great power, but he lives beyond a closed portal in an ancient, underground city. A new, bigger team with members from both tribes, was sent to look for the ancient city and the god. A new adventure awaits. More and More battles were going to happen, but the team was ready. The short war was over, and the two tribes were friends. Everyone was happy. What could possibly go wrong?
